In a country that is devoid of enough locally-made products, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has taken it upon herself to make the county the manufacturing hub of Kenya.
The governor proved she is up to the task at the seventh devolution conference in Wote, Makueni which closes on Friday, November 26.
To say that Kitui county’s display booth at DevCon was impressive would be an understatement. It was spectacular!
Governor Ngilu showcased a wide range of products manufactured in Kitui that put other governors to shame.
For starters, Kitui county unveiled school shoes manufactured at the Kitui Leather Industries. The industries also produce leather bags, belts, and balls, which seemed to impress chief guest Raila Odinga.
Governor Ngilu also took pride in the work of the Kitui Pharma Industry which produces Hand wash, Antiseptic, Fumigant, Hand sanitizer, Formalin, Regular and color bleach, Methylated spirit among others.
“Raila Odinga and CS Matiang’i also stopped by the KITUI PHARMA INDUSTRIES to check out our various products MADE IN KITUI. I took them through the Kitui Manufacturing journey which we hope will make Kitui the Manufacturing County of this republic,” Ngilu noted.
Then there was Kitui county’s biggest seller at the Devolution Conference – the popular local drink’ ‘KALUVU’, Honey wine, and Sugarcane wine, manufactured at the Kitui Food Industries.
“Our biggest best-seller at the Devolution Conference 2021 in Makueni, Kitui’s popular local drink’ ‘KALUVU’, Honey wine and Sugarcane wine. Flying off the shelf at lightning speed. Wueh! Wadau, si mnakata maji proper! Thank you all our esteemed customers, mmetujenga sana,” reads a post from Ngilu’s official Twitter handle.
Along with the honey/sugarcane wines, Ngilu presented Kitui-made condiments, yogurt, juice, and honey.
Ngilu expressed her satisfaction and confidence in all the products, and advocated for BUY KENYA, BUILD KENYA.
Here’s to hoping the products can hit shelves across the country as soon as possible.
