Nviiri the storyteller, one of the new faces of Sauti Sol’s Sol Generation Records, has dropped his highly anticipated track ‘Pombe Sigara’, which translates to Alcohol&Cigarettes.
For his first single under Sol Generation, Nviiri the storyteller tells the story of a guy with a serious addiction.
Ironically, and before you jump to conclusions like I had done, the song is not about the above-mentioned drugs ‘Pombe Sigara’. It is about another ‘drug’ far more addictive to man: woman. Well played Nviiri! Maximum points for the creative plot twist!
In ‘Pombe Sigara’, Nviiri the Storyteller sings about a guy’s obsession with women and how easy it is for him to do without drugs as compared to women.
Nviiri wrote the song himself, with Sauti Sol’s Fancy Fingers and Mboks brilliantly handling the production. Another Sauti Sol member, Willis Chimano, is listed as the creative director behind the visuals shot and directed by therawfilmmaker.
To say ‘Pombe Sigara’ is a masterpiece would be an understatement. It is a real coup by the multitalented young star who should be taken seriously.
Noteworthy fact: Nviiri, who is also a guitarist and a video editor, co-wrote one of Sauti Sol’s biggest hits of 2017, Melanin ft Patoranking.
Check out ‘Pombe Sigara’ below. Rating 10/10. I cannot wait for what’s in store from the rest of the Sol Generation stars Kaskazini and Crystal Asige.
