Self proclaimed King of Genge Jua Cali, has jumped to the defence of his record label, Calif Records. He was responding to questions on why the label has not been proactive with releasing any new music or artistes. The Baba Yao hitmaker said that Calif was still a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
“Yes, we have been a bit quiet but are strategising our next move. We can’t keep doing the same thing; we must look fresh all the time,” Jua Cali told NairobiNews.
Calif Records was founded in 2000 by producer Clement Rapudo aka Clemmo together with Jua Cali. They have signed the likes of Mejja, Choku, Jimwat, Pilipili, Flexx among others. With the artistes having achieved very little success outside the country and facing stiff production from other record labels, perhaps it was time they felt the need to change.
