The iconic Chester house in Nairobi’s CBD is set to be converted into a hotel. Monarch Group – its owners, will spend Sh 238 million to make the shift from an apartment building.

The group, with interests in insurance, real estate and hospitality industries is also in the process of setting up six other accommodation facilities in the region. Among them are Jambo Laikipia, Jambo Nakuru Camp at Delamere ranch, Jambo Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Jambo Jahazi Bahari House in Watamu, Jambo Golo Camp in Meru and Jambo Mara.

Chester House has in the meantime been rebranded to Jambo Chester Hotels and Resorts.
“The apartment business is on the decline and being at the city centre, a hotel is more ideal,” said Jambo Chester Hotels and Resorts group chief executive Moses Kanene.

As part of the conversion, Kitchenettes will be removed, making the rooms more spacious. The Fiesta Restaurant in the building will continue to run as usual.
