Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has explained why he criticized the appointment of TikToker Azziad Nasenya to the Creatives Technical Committee of the Talanta Hela Kenya initiative.
The outspoken lawmaker was among a number of Kenyans who took Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to task for appointing the influencer to a government position.
Salasya claimed that CS Ababu was trying to impress Azziad while lamenting that he was not picking up his calls.
“Ababu Namwamba what exactly attracted you to this lady to get confused to use government platforms to impress her? Wacha kuangusha luhyas in government hii kitu ungefaulu tu bila hizi zote. When I call Ababu as an MP for serious engagement he can’t pick up calls but he is quick for this nonsense,” he tweeted last month.
Peter Salasya has now clarified his remarks in an interview with YouTuber Mungai Eve.
He said he had a bone to pick with CS Ababu and not Azziad. The lawmaker claimed the CS reneged on a promise to attend his tournament.
“Mimi sina shida na Azziad. The problem was with the CS. He told me he was coming for my tournament but didn’t show up. I called him repeatedly na hashiki simu. So if someone doesn’t pick up your calls from an MP what about only seeing him na ule mdada. Why talk to her and not me an MP?” Salasya wondered.
The legislator went on to fault Namwamba for not listening to leaders like himself and instead choosing to work with a “socialite”.
“You cannot pick my call and I am looking at you with a socialite, unaona nikamwabia ohh sasa hii ndio unaona iko mzuri we ni fake. If you avoid leaders like us and listen to women, me I do not have a problem with her that is her right,” Salasya said.
