Saumu Mbuvi Finds Remedy For Her Mental Breakdowns

November 4, 2022

Saumu Mbuvi says she no longer has mental breakdowns after finding the best therapy for her bipolar disorder.

The daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko says her remedy is working out. By hitting the gym, Saumu is killing two birds with one stone: she is also losing weight that she says had started affecting her health.

“My Body Mass Index (BMI) was going high and I could feel pain in my legs when walking for a short distance,” she said adding that she has already lost 3 kgs.

“So the workout sessions are to manage my weight. I was 76kg and currently, I’m 73 and my target is to be 64 or below,” she said.

The mother of two noted that being fit will be her number one priority as she seeks to find her old self.

“Stage one of raising babies is over. Now back to finding your old self. Best therapy in life. I will take you all through my journey,” she told the Star.

Saumu added that working out is helping her manage her intense mood swings, highs and lows, since she is more engaged in the sessions.

“I no longer have mental breakdowns, and it is also good for those fighting depression. Working out has been very helpful. I don’t have time to think about things that can break me down,” she said.

Adding: “Part of the bipolar side effects is insomnia, so after the two-hour workout, I get home tired and I have quality sleep.”

Saumu also mentioned she has had a change of heart about undergoing gastric bypass surgery.

“After doing research, I’m comfortable with working out. And also I always don’t like the easy way out when dealing with things,” she said.
