Comedian Chipukeezy, born Vincent Mwasya Mutua, has confirmed he left his role at the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA).
The former Churchill Show comedian joined the NACADA board as a Director in 2018 before he was promoted to Vice-Chair in 2021.
Chipukeezy says he left the government parastatal after his 3-year contract lapsed.
“My contract expired six months ago. I’m happy to have been part of the team and this wonderful project. I’m done at NACADA and looking forward to getting back to doing what I love,” he said.
When asked why it took him this long to announce his NACADA exit, Chipukeezy said: “It was nobody’s business.”
“It was an engagement between me and his Excellency, and so when the contract ended I communicated that to him. I don’t have to report to social media.”
The former radio presenter thanked President Kenyatta for the opportunity.
“I was among the youth given a chance to serve in the government as a board director and the President recruited me to represent the young people on the board of NACADA. It was one of the best things I’ve ever had the privilege to do.
“The contract was for three years, and when the three years elapsed, I had no intention of renewing it because before I was offered the opportunity I was deep into showbiz and entertainment. I felt like you can only leave one place and go elsewhere to let others also serve. I also felt like I did what I could have done in those three years and so it was time for me to go and do other things. So I didn’t extend my term,” Chipukeezy added.
