December 15, 2021

The underfire billionaire businesswoman Mary Wambui has now been accused of possessing an illegal firearm.

This was discovered last week when the Kenya Revenue Authority and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers raided her room at Weston Hotel and recovered an abandoned handbag with an assortment of personal identification documents and cash.

“In the process of preparing an inventory, we came across a firearm licensing certificate number… issued to you by the Firearms Licensing Board. The said license expired on 17/04/2020. By implication, you are illegally possessing the firearm,” said the the Firearms Licensing Board.

The Board issued a demand letter to the businesswoman directing her to surrender her pistol on December 15.

“I demand that you produce before me firearm type CZ75 Compact serial number……on December 15, 2021, while well secured,” board chairman Charles Mukindia said.

Wambui, who is facing tax evasion charges totaling Sh2.2 billion, was on December 9 released on Sh25 million cash bail.
