Following weeks of uncountable graft reports within high circles of the government, President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to crack the whip.
Cases of corruption involving billions of shillings, and touching individuals occupying seats as high as the cabinet have been reported almost daily in the last few weeks. Uhuru has publicly promised to act, but Kenyans have mostly interpreted this as his usual public threats that amount to nothing.
This morning however, we are finally seeing some movement.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has been sent home. Echesa has made many negative headlines, from corruption, academic qualifications and human trafficking.
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has been moved to the sports docket, and in her place KNEC Chairman George Magoha takes over.
Magoha is viewed as a no nonsense man, similar to his former boss Fred Matiang’i.
Also sacked is Fatuma Hirsi, the Tourism Principal Secretary.
