25-year-old Chops Off his Private Parts in Kericho

January 16, 2019

A 25-year-old man is recuperating at the Kericho sub-county hospital after he cut off part of his penis.

The victim, Samuel Maina Muchiri, reportedly committed the bizarre self-harming act on Tuesday, January 15, in his Momoniat Estate house in Nyagacho area.

According to a police report, the incident was reported by Mr Muchiri’s neighbour, Anthony Kanuthi. The witness reported hearing screams from the victim’s house at around midnight on Tuesday and rushed to the scene only to find Muchiri writhing in pain.

“At around 12.50am Antony Kago Kanuthi was in his rental house situated near Momomiat village in Nyagacho centre. He heard a loud scream from his neighbour Samuel Maina. When he rushed to his house he found he had cut his private part,” read part of the report.

Kago, with the help of other neighbours, rushed Muchiri to hospital but unfortunately forgot to carry with them the dismembered organ.

Kericho Police Commander James Mugera said by the time officers reached the scene they found the severed piece oozing blood on the bed.

The officers took the piece to the hospital to allow doctors to reattach it.

Kericho District Hospital Medical Superintendent, Japheth Cheruiyot, said due to the nature of the wound they transferred Muchiri to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

It is still unclear what pushed Mr Muchiri to commit such an act.

An area resident said the victim was intoxicated during the incidence.
