Besides her ravishing beauty, Constable Emma Brenda also endeared herself to Kenyans after sharing her story as a single mother and her struggle with her abusive and violent boyfriend.
“After completing secondary education, I fell pregnant – my child’s father was my first serious boyfriend. He was living in Ongata Rongai, and I was staying at my aunt’s place in Kiserian, Kajiado County. She was a Bishop, and so she was my godmother. I was born again at that time,” said Emma.
“Two months into the pregnancy, he said he wasn’t ready to become a father. I told him: ‘I am 19, so where do we move to from here?’ he said: ‘You can always go back to your mum’s place, I don’t mind.’”
“He became verbally abusive, violent, constantly absent… I was traumatised. I had just completed high school. All I had was a KCSE certificate; I wondered where I would go to next. After the people around me knew I was pregnant, they abandoned me – even some members of my family deserted me,” she added.
