In Kenya, in most public primary schools, lower primary pupils are taught how to communicate in their mother tongue. Once they learn how to speak in their native language, they go a step further to recite poems and sing traditional songs in order to have them master their language.
Speaking of mother tongue poems, a group of Kikuyu pupils was video-taped reciting a hilarious piece dubbed ‘wakairetu’ and here is how they funnily made it sound. The video is last year’s but is still humorous.
