One way to separate bonafide lyricists from the chaff is through sampling. For those of you who don’t know what sampling is, it is the use of one sound recording and reusing it in a different song or piece.
Quite a task, but one Shikow Femi One has taken to the task almost effortlessly. Not on one track but on nine popular Kenyan tracks.
In Karata, Femi One has sampled tracks by Jaguar, E-Sir, Prezzo, Jua Cali, Kantai, C-Zar, Rabbit, Bamboo and even Sauti Sol. She has the rhymes, the punchlines and the flow I actually had this track on replay. She’s too dope.
I will let you be the judge now.
