Former Safaricom chief Executive, Michael Joseph, has finally secured Kenyan citizenship.
Following the 2010 constitution that allowed Kenyans to hold dual citizenship, he took advantage of this, meaning he will not have to renounce his US nationality.
“Kenya is my home and it is my intention to return and find ways to continue to give back to Kenya,” he said in an interview with Business Daily.
Michael Joseph is currently based in Newbury, UK , where he works as the managing director in charge of mobile money at Vodafone which is Safaricom’s biggest shareholder.
In January, he was appointed the chancellor of Maseno University by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Acquiring the citizenship removes the headache of having to apply and renew his work permit. It will also save Safaricom, where he sits as the non executive director, work permit fees and higher income tax payable by foreigners.
Furthermore, the move will enable him be involved in planning of Maseno University’s growth plan which was ranked Kenya’s third best university after Nairobi and Kenyatta.
