The Betting Control and Licencing Board (BCLB) has this week, restored the licences of 10 sports betting companies in the country as the purge against betting companies in Kenya enters its third week. Odibets is one of the few betting companies in Kenya whose licences have the greenlight of the government to get a licence to operate.

Apart from Odibets.com, other companies that have been whitelisted for licencing include Betway, Mozzart Bet, Eastleigh Bet, Ken book makers, Lucky to you, Bet Boss, Kick Off, Easy Bet and Palms Bet.

Among the major players whose licences have yet to get greenlight for renewal by the regulators (BCLB) include Betpawa, Betin, Sportybet and market leaders, Sportpesa.

Not much has been seen on the social networks of the players whose licences have yet to be approved – with pertinent matters before the courts of law in Kenya.

The climax of the purge was when the minister of interior Fred Matiangi signed 17 deportation letters for foreigners working illegally in the gambing industry. The other was the closing of the affected companies paybills and short codes rendering them inoperable apart from 1XBET which still operates.

What will happen remains to be seen. There are sleuths of negative publicity like this, the companies are hopeful of resuming operations soon. For avid bettors, the above companies have full clearance to operate.
