Detectives in Nakuru claim Joseph Lourien Akorot, the Deputy OCS Mau Summit Police Station, accosted his girlfriend before he shot her dead.
In a detailed statement, police said the senior cop stalked his girlfriend Ms Janet Chebet, 30, as she was returning back to her home.
Chebet had escorted her four-year-old child to a school – Bishop Ndingi Private Academy – when OCS Akorot accosted her and shot her five times in the back.
The cop then turned the gun on his head before he fell to the ground next to his girlfriend’s body.
Sarambei Sub Location area assistant chief Joseph Ngeno reported the shooting. Police officers led by Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander James Ademba rushed to the scene where they found the two lying by the roadside.
The cops rushed the victims rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital but Ms Chebet was pronounced dead on arrival.
OCS Akorot was referred to Nakuru County Referral Hospital in critical condition.
“A Ceska pistol of serial number F4270 loaded with 9 rounds of 9mm was then recovered on the left-hand side of the officer who was lying on the ground,” the report read in part.
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took over and are now trying to establish the motive for the murder.
