Police in Migori have arrested a woman who allegedly poisoned her three-year-old daughter at Suna Raha village in Suna West, Migori County.
The suspect identified as Faith Akinyi reportedly killed her daughter and attempted to commit suicide using the same poisonous concoction on Friday. She was arrested at Akidiva hospital after doctors established that she was out of danger.
The woman is said to have committed the act at around 11 pm and were rushed to the hospital by family members who were in the house during the incident.
The three-year-old girl succumbed at the hospital.
Police recovered a suicide note in which the 30-year-old woman blamed her husband, Elly, for neglecting the family.
According to family members, Ms Akinyi is mentally ill and has been undergoing depression.
They said that in March of this year, she attempted suicide by ingesting poison but was rescued and treated.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned today to face infanticide charges.
