Gospel artiste Owen Mwatia alias Daddy Owen has opened up about the scary moment he and his wife, Farida, nearly lost their unborn baby.
Taking to social media, the ‘Vanity’ hitmaker recalled how they had to rush to the emergency room before Farida’s due date after she started complaining of pains.
“It was a scary moment… My wife was feeling lots of pain but it was too early from the delivery date… So we went to see the doc… He advised us we go do a scan… During the scan the sonographer told us the cord is around the baby’s neck,” wrote Daddy Owen.
He added: “When we took the report to the doc he told us immediately we[sic] going to the theatre! Was scared didn’t know what to do and what to expect! The main reason I am sharing this story is because the doc told me nowadays the cases of babies with cords on the neck are too many and they don’t know the reason… Is it lifestyle… Environment… No one knows exactly… Many have lost their babies! I thank God that my son came out well and my wife is strong and healthy… Glory be to JESUS!”
Speaking about the incident with Word Is, Daddy Owen said that his wife had to deliver five weeks before her due date.
“Thank God my late dad told me that pregnancy matters need to be planned [for] in advance, so I was ready financially. Farida was forced to go through emergency delivery five weeks before her due date,” said Owen.
The doctor told the couple there was a possibility of losing the baby.
“The doctor said for a very long time he has had such cases, and those kids ended up dying. I was so stressed about losing my son. I decided to ask the doctor what the reason could be, and he said there is no documented reason.”
The NHIF brand ambassador now seeks to use his experience to spread awareness and encourage men to support their women during childbirth and afterwards.
“Once you have your wife in the delivery room, you appreciate your parents even more for the effort they put on you and for lack of sleep.
“You must be there during the day and even at night to support your wife, otherwise, she might end up in depression. Depression in this way, the baby is crying, she tries everything but the baby is still crying. That can lead to mental depression if we, men, are not careful.
“Sometimes the baby might just be requiring a new environment which you, as a man, are capable [of providing]. Give her the confidence and assure her that you are with her all through.
“My wife and I have shifts at night to take care of the baby and I am happy about that.”
