No sooner had they made a comeback on our television screens than they ruffled feathers among Kenyan internet users. Citizen TV’s ‘Fashion Watch’, which people loved to hate before it went off the air, made a special return over the weekend to cover and critique the royal wedding on Saturday.
The usual gang of celebrity stylist Annabel Onyango, Carol Odero, Robert Burale, and Ian Mbugua- hosted by Lilian Muli- came together again and unsurprisingly, brewed up a storm on social media with their controversial “fashion” views on Meghan Markle’s Givenchy Royal wedding dress.
All but pastor Robert Burale held reservations about the dress designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller.
Annabel thought: “I expected a little bit more…given all the wait and anticipation. I thought it was a bit baggy. These things need to be perfect but this wasn’t.”
Ian Mbugua added: “I did not like the gown either- It looks a tad big on her.”
While Carol Odero, in addition to criticizing the dress, called out the Duchess of Sussex on her makeup. She said, “I expected it to be more princess like. It should have been more- The make up was also not outstanding.”
Their views were shared on Twitter via the official Citizen TV Twitter handle causing an uproar from Kenyan Twitteratti.
Carol Odero, in particular, appeared to receive most of the backlash.

Just simple makeup she had and that’s her signature.. Her gown was simple and modern, her tiara was ??,her veil detail represented the common wealth countries.I think she wanted to bring who she is inside out

Maybe she wants girls to love themselves the way they are, you can still be fine when u keep it simple, no make up.

She is a princess. They can’t do screaming make-up. I wish people actually read up before speaking.

Does Carol think all women need make up to look good??
— Clinton Mony (@ClintonMony) May 19, 2018
The way carol is dressed reminds me of the women who act as keepers of the shrine in naija movies. Those shrine women who have their altars by the rivers………

Carol Odero the difference between royalty and slay queens is simplicity! These people are very simple and this has brought them far. Slay queens would put 10 tones of makeup on their faces, fake eyelashes and the list continues. Exposure helps us become more mature and simple
