A patient at the Kenyatta National Hospital on Wednesday committed suicide after he was detained at the facility over an unpaid medical bill.
Maurice Chege Kiarie, 39, was admitted to the hospital on August 9. He had been discharged on August 14 but was detained in the ward after he was unable to pay the medical expenses.
A police report indicates that Mr Chege jumped off the seventh floor of the Casualty Wing and died on the spot.
His body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Earlier this week, an unidentified middle-aged man committed suicide by hanging. His body was found dangling from a tree in the CBD along Moi Avenue.
Elsewhere, a 27-year-old woman committed suicide in her bathroom in Utawala, Nairobi.
A caretaker who had noticed a foul smell emanating from one of the houses on Wednesday contacted police who broke down the door and found woman’s body hanging from a rope.
