A parliamentary aspirant for Matuga constituency in Kwale County shot and injured himself after his gun accidentally went off.
Kassim Sawa Tandaza, the Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate, shot himself in the lower abdomen while at the Moi International Airport.
Confirming the incident, Airport Deputy OCPD Beatrice Kigalu said Mr Sawa shot himself while handing over his firearm for safekeeping at the airport.
“He is a licenced firearm holder. It happened when he was giving out the firearm as required in the security procedures at the facility,” said Kigalu.
Mr Sawa was rushed to Bomu Hospital where he is being attended to.
“We have also launched our investigations on the same so that we get more details about the incident,” added Kigalu.
