Kenyan DJ Killed in a Motorcycle Crash in Minnesota

A Kenyan man passed away on Tuesday night in Minneapolis, Minnesota after the motorcycle he was riding crashed off a road and struck a tree.

Omari O. Omari, 32, died on Tuesday, May 14th around 8:40pm after crashing his motorcycle along Highway 60. According to Minnesota State Patrol, the motorcycle ran off the two-lane highway and hit a tree before landing in a ditch east of Zumbro Falls.

Omari, a popular Latin music DJ in Minneapolis popularly known as DJ Omari and who belonged to the dance DJ group Salsa Police, died at the scene according to authorities.
Omari’s father is Kenyan while his mother is Jordanian. Omari’s family was among the first Kenyan families to settle in the Twin Cities in the early eighties, and his father (Hassan) was the main promoter of African events in the Twin Cities eighties.
“Omari was a very kind hearted and welcoming brother, a son of many, and brother to many,” said DJ Xpect, a close friend of Omari who has worked closely with him.
