The Ministry of Health has cautioned young Kenyans about the dangers of using vapes, nicotine pouches, electronic cigars, and other emerging substances. Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni stressed the serious long-term health risks these products pose, including cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
“Research shows these substances can have dire health consequences in the future,” Muthoni said. “We urge our youth to avoid them for their well-being.”
Speaking during a church service in Embu, Muthoni highlighted both the immediate and long-term impacts of using these products, explaining that while they may offer short-term satisfaction, they often lead to harmful health effects over time.
The PS also expressed concern over the increasing popularity of nicotine-containing products among young people and encouraged them to prioritize their health.
“These products are becoming a significant health risk. We must act now to protect future generations,” she added.
In a separate statement, Muthoni reassured Kenyans about the country’s safety regarding Mpox and Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). “There is no need for alarm,” she said.
“Kenya has not reported any cases of the HMPV virus, and the government will continue to enhance testing and monitoring to ensure public safety.”
