A man is in police custody in Trans Nzoia County for allegedly killing his mother after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol.
Robin Oyori Osuma, 28, is said to have attacked his 56-year-old mother, Mrs Agnes Chepkorir Kosgei, on Monday night in Siyoi village Kwanza sub-County.
A village elder privy to the incident noted that the suspect often demands money from his mother and assaults her whenever she declines to give him.
“The suspect also went ahead and sold two sheep on Saturday and Sunday. His mother reported the matter to the police on Monday morning,” said the elder identified as Joseph Wekesa.
On Monday at around 8 pm, Mr Oyori demanded cash from his mother but was denied. He turned violent and stabbed her in the chest several times.
“When his mother refused, the suspect went to the kitchen, returned with a knife, dragged her from the bedroom to the toilet, and stabbed her before telling one of their neighbours what he had done and warning him not to enter their house,” Wekesa narrated.
The village elders and other neighbours went to the home and found the door to the house partially opened. They found the suspect in the house and frogmarched him to the nearby Maili Saba Police Station.
Police found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood and also recovered the knife that was used to stab her.
Kwanza OCPD James Odera confirmed the suspect was in the custody awaiting his day in court.
