Bensoul is parting ways with Sol Generation after five years under the tutelage of Kenya’s MTV-award-winning boyband, Sauti Sol.
The ‘Nairobi’ hitmaker was the face of the Sauti Sol-owned record label since it launched in 2019. After a massively successful five years under Sol Generation, the cub has become a lion ready to venture out on his own.
“I’m the jungle male cub, akifika a certain age, wanafukuzwangwa from the pride, wanaambiwa sasa enda ujitafutie. So wanafukuzwangwa wakiwa wengi, wengine wanamake it, na wengine wanakufa in the wilderness,” Bensoul says.
The 27-year-old is planning to start his own record label dubbed ‘Lion of Sudah’.
“Considering everything that I have learned at Sol Generation I feel like I’m ready to handle my own empire and make sure I take care of other artistes on the way. I feel like I’m in a better place and I really want to be on my own- work on my life, my career, and everything,” Bensoul said in a radio interview.
He also clarified that he did not fall out with Sauti Sol contrary to speculation.
“I think guys are blowing the news out of proportion. Guys are overthinking but really there is no drama in this. My contract is coming to an end and I just want to create space for other deserving up and coming artistes to join the label and nurture their careers like I did. It’s an amazing place to be,” he said.
Bensoul explained that five years under Sol Generation accorded him enough growth to go independent.
“I honestly feel, for the time that I have been there I have tremendously grown as a person and an artist. It’s only wise to leave and create space for others.
“There is absolutely no blood between Sol Generation and me, if anything, we still remain best buddies and as a matter of fact, people should expect more collaboration from us even once my contract runs down,” he said.
In addition to starting his label, Bensoul is also preparing to release his 15-track album, The Lion of Sudah, on April 20 at the Alchemist in Westlands, Nairobi.
