Kenya Power has scrapped the detailed breakdown of token purchases in messages sent to its customers.
In a statement Tuesday, the utility firm said the decision followed a public outcry.
Kenya Power said it conducted a survey where customers voted to shorten the long messages which indicated the cost elements of the tokens purchased.
“Upon request by our customers, we have since been sending short messages upon token purchase.
“The change has been effected after numerous engagements with the public including a recent survey where our customers requested a briefer statement of their electricity bills,” Kenya Power said.
In the new text message, customers will only receive the token purchased, date of purchase and amount of units purchased.
Power consumers who would want all the details on the charges were advised to use the utility USSD code *977#.
Previously, the messages contained VAT, fuel energy charge, forex charge, Epra charge, WRA charge, REP charge and inflation adjustment.
