A court in Mombasa has convicted an elderly man for packing an alcoholic drink in a plastic bottle.
Gabriel Kililo appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo in Shanzu, where he pleaded guilty to charges of packing alcoholic drink in a plastic container contrary to section 31(2)b as read with section 31(3) of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act number 4 of 2016.
The court heard that on January 6 this year at Mwembe Legeza area in Kisauni Sub-county within Mombasa county, Kililo was found in possession of a litre of chang’aa which was packed in a plastic bottle that does not conform to the regulation of alcoholic drinks.
In his mitigation, the accused pleaded for forgiveness and said he was not aware that it was an offense to use plastic bottles to carry alcoholic drinks.
The magistrate ordered Kililo to pay a fine of Sh4,000 or serve a seven-day jail term in default.
