Five suspects were Monday, December 9, arraigned in court in connection with the murder of LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba(born Kiprotrich Kiptoo).
The five, who included three minors, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo at the Eldoret Law Courts.
The suspects were not charged as the Prosecution applied to have them detained to allow for further investigations.
Eldoret South Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Chief Stephen Mumba informed the court that they needed more time for a post-mortem to be conducted.
The court also heard that Chiloba’s apartment and the Toyota Fielder allegedly used to dispose of his body had not been subjected to forensic examination.
Detectives also asked for more time to examine CCTV footage from Tamasha Club in Eldoret, where Chiloba and prime suspect Jackton Odhiambo were seen on New Year’s Eve.
Police are also yet to recover a handset used by the deceased. They said they are pursuing more suspects.
Magistrate Richard Odenyo granted the application to detain the suspects for 21 days.
The court also dismissed a request by prime suspect Jackton Odhiambo to be released on bail.
“I request to be released on bond so that I can continue with my work to support my family,” Odhiambo pleaded.
The case will be heard on January 31.
