A police officer was shot and killed during a deadly shootout with fellow officers who were on patrol at Coast area of Nairobi’s Kawangware estate.

Police Constable Indenje, who had been stationed at Riruta Police Station, is said to have been inebriated when he engaged in a scuffle with bodaboda operators at a bus stop in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The officer allegedly threatened to shoot the boda boda operators.

According to a police report, the officers who were on patrol challenged him to surrender but he shot at the officers “injuring PC Kenneth Kimathi on the left wrist”.

PC Indenje was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital at Adams Arcade where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police recovered a Ceska pistol F6974 that had fired seven rounds of 9mm.

The injured officer Mr Kimathi is currently undergoing treatment at Chiromo Lane Medical Centre.
