Q&A With Janet Mbugua: ‘Period Sex is not Wrong, Just Take Precautions’

August 22, 2019

Media personality Janet Mbugua has finally responded to questions about periods that were posed a few weeks ago by her followers on Instagram.

The former Citizen TV news anchor says she has narrowed the questions to 10, which she answered in a 20-minute video on her  YouTube channel.

Apparently, one of the most asked questions was whether it is safe to have period sex.

“A lot of you asked me if it is safe to have sex during your period and I don’t know why,” Janet says, before explaining that she has no problem with period sex.

She, however, observed that precautions must be taken to ensure proper hygiene is maintained.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong. I think you have to take certain precautions…you have to have a towel, you have to make sure that you’ve covered the sheets. Some people find it messy but I don’t think there’s anything wrong in terms of health. Just take precautions is what I would say,” she said, adding that there needs to be a conversation about the ‘taboo’ topic.

Janet was also asked if pain during menses is normal or a sign of fibroids, to which she responded saying pain is common.

“The problem comes if it’s excruciating pain. I had a lot of pains during my periods and even today… I still do. If I don’t take contraceptives for example, I still have a lot of pain,” she said.

She encourages girls to seek medical help if the pain is too much or if they have prolonged menses.
