Police Corporal Beats Up His Senior at Police Station in Siaya

July 9, 2019

There was drama in Ugunja, Siaya when a junior police officer attacked his boss for allegedly insulting him.

The incident occurred at Ugunja Police Station in full view of amused members of the public who had gone to seek services. Passersby also milled around the station to watch the brawl between the cops who were in full-service uniform.

Witnesses said the senior sergeant was taking a breather under a tree at the station when he drew the wrath of the junior police corporal.

“The sergeant was sitting under a tree… when the corporal passed by, he(sergeant) started abusing him calling him incompetent,” said a witness.

Reportedly, the junior cop initially ignored his boss’ taunts but the sergeant kept at it, accusing him of being an undisciplined member of the police force. This happened whenever the junior cop passed by, leading to a heated exchange of words.

When the bickering reached its limit, the junior cop decided to take matters in his hands, and in a fit of rage pounced on his boss with blows and kicks.

Not one to out with his ego bruised, the sergeant tried to fight back, but he was pinned to the ground. Locals were reportedly cheering them on before senior officers intervened and stopped the fight.

We’re not sure who won the fight but our bets are on the junior cop.

Members of the public were ordered out of the police station precincts as the officers regrouped after an embarrassing start to the day.

Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli said disciplinary measures have been instituted and a team appointed to probe the matter.

“They quarreled in public and the Sub-County Police Commander has instituted a disciplinary board to look into the matter. Action will be taken against anybody found culpable,” said Kooli.
