Kenyan gospel musician Ben Githae has finally confessed to having a clandestine affair that resulted in the birth of his twin daughters.
The ‘Uhuru-Ruto Tano Tena’ hitmaker, who received a State Commendation from President Uhuru Kenyatta, cheated on his wife for a period of five years.
The popular Kikuyu singer made the revelation on Tuesday during an interview with Radio Jambo’s Massawe Japanni.
Ben Githae said he had been in marriage for 18 years and only “slipped up” in 2016 out of temptation. His lover was 31-year-old Margaret Wanjiru, with whom Githae sired twin children.
He also disclosed that his wife and family were aware of the extramarital affair even before the story came out in public. He said the issue almost threatened to end his marriage.
The 43-year-old musician further trashed claims by his former lover Ms Wanjiru that he asked her to have an abortion after she became pregnant.
Wanjiru, who has another child from a different relationship, said she met Mr Githae in 2011 and kick-started a relationship.
The “Tabia Mbaya” hitmaker said his baby mama threatened him before going public with the matter.
“Baby mama kutokea publicly kulikuwa na threats na zile tunaweza sema intimidations baadae kidogo hizo threats zao zikawa implemented na ndipo nanyi mkajua. At family level, kulikuwa kunajulikana,” he said.
He also denied Ms Wanjiru’s claims that he has neglected the girls.
“Contrary to what Wanjiru says, I have constantly featured in the lives of our girls. I have always taken care of them.”
