Visiting American R&B singer Keri Hilson on Thursday broke down in tears as she gave an inspired talk about her struggles with depression.

The ‘Energy’ hitmaker was speaking during a press briefing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) ahead of her concert, Terminal Weekend, this weekend.

Keri Hilson opened up about how her struggle with depression made her take a break from music to concentrate on regaining her happiness and mental stability.

“I had to take a break for a while to soul-search and find my happiness. That is exactly what I did, it took longer than I expected, but I am grateful that I found my way out,” said Keri.

She added that she has since resorted to helping people who are dealing with similar problems.

“I just want to be a voice and be a beacon of light to those who are going through mental disorders or mental health issues.”

The ‘Knock You Down’ singer also used the opportunity to urge persons undergoing depression to speak out, so as “to find truth and honesty through pain”.

“It is really important to express yourself. That is what it is meant for, that honesty, that truth and that pain. I remember a lot of days I was just unable to step into the studio, but I kept pushing. During that time, I made some of my best music ever. I am here to inspire people. I am not here to make music that paints me perfect,” said Keri.

“Take the time you need to find yourself and come back even better!” Keri Hilson said.
