As expected, Tanzania’s Bongo Flava Star Diamond Platnumz has apologised for his recent postings on social media site Instagram.
The singer got in trouble with the law earlier this week over the indecent video clips of himself and an unidentified white woman. In one of the clips, the shirtless singer is seen making out with the woman in what looks like a hotel room.
On Monday, the singer was arrested and questioned by authorities. They deemed the video to be indecent, in breach of Tanzania’s culture and in violation of new laws regulating online content.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, said that Diamond could be indicted for going against the country’s cybercrime law and threshold of decency.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday morning, Diamond acknowledged that posting the clips was irresponsible of him.
“I’ve had a long conversation with the authorities and I have learnt that what I did was not right.
“As a role model to many young people, not just in Tanzania but across the continent, posting a private moment was irresponsible of me.”
The ‘Kwangwaru’ hitmaker has since been released on bail pending further investigations.
