Gilad Millo is a former deputy head of mission at the Israeli Embassy in Kenya and is one of the biggest artists in the country.
When he is not releasing amazing music, Gilad is quite the family man. He is a father to two, 18-year-old Omer and 14-year-old Lia.
He talked to Sunday Magazine about what parenting means to him.
What do you love most about being a parent?
What are some of the challenges you face as a father?
What are some of the lessons you would like to teach them?
I often try to ‘fast forward’ life for my children by sharing my own experiences in similar situations they face. But, experience is the best teacher and at the end of the day they have to experience life and learn for themselves.
How do you spend time together?
With my son we spend a lot of time around music as he is an accomplished musician. He now attends Berklee College of Music in Boston so we spend most of our time on Whatsapp. My daughter is my buddy, we hang out a lot, talk, listen to music and laugh all the time.
What advice would you give to them about life?
My best advice to my kids is to always try to live in the ‘now’, to chase their dreams and to trust that God has a plan for each of us.
As a father what are some of the lessons you have learnt?
I have learned to be thankful that my children are better than I am. They are kinder, wiser, faster, more talented, more conscious, more aware and more fearless which is proof that as humanity we are evolving one generation at a time.
