Residents of Rukanga in Kirinyaga County are reeling from shock following the gruesome death of a woman and her three-year-old daughter at the hands of a police officer.
The woman and her child were killed on Tuesday after an Administration Police vehicle hit them. The incident occurred at around 7 am at Rukanga along the Nairobi-Sagana highway.
According to witnesses, the officer behind the wheel tried to overtake another vehicle but the car swerved and ran over the woman and her daughter, who were walking to nursery school. They both died on the spot.
Witnesses added that the officer fled the scene after the accident.
The vehicle is stationed at the Riandira Police Post in Mwea West Police Division.
Confirming the incident, Area OCPD Samuel Seurey said the officer would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
“Unfortunately we lost two people in the accident. The law is equal to all and once investigations are over we will take legal action,” the police boss said.
