Babu Owino Arrest Warrant Lifted After Presenting Himself to Court

February 6, 2018

A warrant of arrest issued earlier on Monday against Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was later withdrawn.

The arrest warrant had been issued against the controversial MP and his bodyguard Fanuel Owino for failing to appear in court for the mention of an assault case they are facing.

They, however, presented themselves and the warrant was subsequently withdrawn.

They told Senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku Mutugi they could not appear in the morning as they were attending to another court case in Kibera.

The first-time MP and his co-accused were arrested on January 20 for allegedly assaulting the parking attendant at Fortis Plaza in Westlands, Nairobi.

They were also charged for using abusive language and creating a disturbance.

The arrest came days after a video went viral on social media, where men believed to be the legislator and his aides were seen roughing up the parking attendant.

According to the police, the parking attendant said Babu and his bodyguards had beaten him after he asked them why they had not paid the parking fee.

They denied the charges and were released on a personal bond of Sh20,000 each.

The hearing of the case is on March 22.
