Operations in Eldoret town grounded to a halt for the better part of Sunday as street children engaged police in running battles following the death of four street children.
The agitated street urchins dumped the body of their colleague outside Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago’s office. They claimed that their colleague drowned at river Sosian while trying to get away from county askaris.
They stated that four of their colleagues had died as a result of frequent clashes with the authorities.
Police were forced to lob teargas while dispersing the protesters after which the county officials ferried the body to a nearby mortuary.
The county government law enforcers claimed that the street families are behind the increasing cases of rape in the county, allegations the street families deny.
