Kisumu County police commander Nelson Njiri has been promoted barely a week after a protester was shot under his watch in the lakeside town.
Njiri is now the General Manager in charge of security at the Kenya Airports Authority. He replaces Eric Kiraithe who is the government’s spokesman.
Current Mwea East OCPD Titus Yoma takes Njiri’s place in Kisumu, while Athi River OCPD Kizito Mutoro moves to Mwea.
It is unclear whether his handling of last week’s protests had anything to do with the move, or whether he was already being considered to replace Kiraithe.
