If you have never been prouder of our Kenyan athletes, then 32-year old Jemimah Sumgong has the perfect reason to be proud of the Kenyan spirit.
The female athlete surprised many after she won the 2016 London Marathon women’s title despite falling down a few metres from the finish line.
Jemimah Sumgong fell after she was tripped by Ethiopian Aselefech Mergia as the two neared a water station. She grazed her head from the fall and could be seen holding her head in pain. She however soldiered on and managed to reclaim the title which Kenya lost to Ethiopia’s Tigist Tufa in 2015.
She won the race after clocking 2 hours 22 minutes and 58 seconds with Tufa coming second in 2:23: 03, as another Kenyan, Florence Kiplagat, took third place in 2:23:39.
