With each passing day, criminals are coming up with new ways of stealing from unsuspecting Kenyans.
The latest method to come to light involves petrol station attendants. It was brought to light by a social media user who noticed an attendant swiping his atm card under a small machine he was holding under the Authorised swiping machine.
The vigilant customer, puzzled by the use of the unauthorised machine, questioned the attendant’s motives prompting him to flee from the scene. He was later nabbed after the customer pursued him for over 1 km.
According to the police, there is a syndicate operating within Nairobi and its environs.
Here what the post read,
“Guys..please exercise vigilance and care when using your atm card to pay for fuel.
This morning at shell petrol station ridgeways after fuelling, i gave the attendant my card to swipe but i noticed him running the card under a small machine he was holding under the Authorised swiping machine.
It was at this point that the attendant (pictured) fled on foot, and while running he tossed the card skimmer he was using to steal client details for fraudulent purposes.
I was however able to pursue him and apprehend him after about 1 km of pursuit of running, i subdued him and reported the matter to the police.
They indicated that this is a syndicate operating within Nairobi and its environs.”
