Uhuru, Raila Handshake was Ida Odinga’s Idea, Says Rachel Shebesh

May 6, 2019

Apparently, the historic March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga is the brainchild of Ida Odinga.

This is according to outspoken politician Rachel Shebesh who says it was Ida who brought the two leaders together.

In a video obtained by Citizen Digital, Shebesh indicated that Uhuru and Raila were getting credit for the peace initiative while it was Ida who did all the work.

“We’re giving too much credit to Uhuru and Raila, I want to tell you the truth today. The handshake between Uhuru and Raila came from Mama Ida,” Shebesh is quoted.

According to the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary, President Uhuru told her about Ida’s role in the building bridges initiative.

“Because Uhuru told me that if it was not for Mama Ida, he would not have sat down with Raila and he (Raila) would not have listened to him because the tension was high,” added Shebesh.

She further applauded the handshake deal saying it has restored peace in the country.

“I am happy that I can now go to Gem and Khwisero and Kisumu without fear, I would not have passed there before (the handshake),” said the former Nairobi Women Representative.

She also dismissed politicians who are against the unity pact between the president and the AU envoy. Shebesh urged Kenyans to “leave them alone because they’re being paid.”
