KNEC Announces KPSEA 2024 Results

January 8, 2025

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results for 2024 are now available. These results mark an important milestone for Grade 6 learners and integrate seamlessly into the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system, which focuses on skills and competency development rather than memorization.

The examinations were conducted from October 28 to November 1, 2024, and involved 1,303,913 Grade 6 learners across 35,573 testing centers in Kenya. Subjects assessed included:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Kiswahili
  • Integrated Science
  • Creative Arts
  • Social Studies

Unlike traditional examination systems, KPSEA evaluates foundational skills and long-term competencies rather than ranking learners. All candidates will smoothly transition to Grade 9 while remaining within their current primary school learning environments.

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is aimed at equipping learners with real-world skills. KPSEA reflects this philosophy by contributing to a learner’s overall junior secondary school assessment as follows:

  • 20% comes from KPSEA (Grade 6).
  • 20% comes from school-based assessments at Grade 7.
  • 60% is derived from the final summative assessment in Grade 9.

This system reduces the stress of ranking, promoting a well-rounded, competency-driven framework that prepares learners for the next stages of their educational journey.

Junior Secondary (Grades 7 to 9) offers students a robust, blended curriculum aimed at developing critical skills and preparing learners for Senior Secondary (Grades 10-12). Key learning areas include:

  1. English and Kiswahili
  2. Mathematics
  3. Religious Education (Christian, Islamic, or Hindu)
  4. Social Studies (History, Geography, and Life Skills)
  5. Integrated Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  6. Creative Arts and Sports
  7. Agriculture
  8. Pre-technical Studies (e.g., Business and Computer Studies)

By exposing students to a diverse set of disciplines, schools ensure learners have strong foundations in both knowledge and practical skills before moving to career-specific pathways in Senior Secondary.

Senior Secondary (Grades 10–12) builds on learners’ strengths and interests through specialized pathways:

  • Arts and Sports Science: Includes music, dance, theater, filmmaking, fine arts, and sports for creative and performance-oriented students.
  • Social Sciences: Aimed at students passionate about humanities like history and geography.
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics): Designed for future innovators and problem-solvers in science-driven careers.

This phase allows learners to refine their skills and knowledge, preparing them for future endeavors in Kenya’s growing economy or on a global scale.

How To Access the KPSEA 2024 Results

Schools are encouraged to download the KPSEA results and guide students through understanding their performance and setting realistic academic goals.

For parents, active engagement is key. Discuss your child’s progress with their teachers, ask for guidance on how to support their educational journey, and create an environment conducive to personal and academic growth.

Congratulations to the Grade 6 learners for their achievements—this is but the first step in a lifelong journey of growth, innovation, and success!
