The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recently reassigned several principals across Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Kisii counties as part of an ongoing strategy to strengthen school leadership and improve academic outcomes in the regions.
Eve Odhiambo, who recently served as the Chief Principal at Kisumu Girls High School for under a year, has been transferred to Dudi Girls High School in Homa Bay County. In her place, Doreen Buop, the outgoing head of Dudi Girls, will take over as principal of Kisumu Girls.
These strategic relocations emphasize TSC’s objective of invigorating top-performing schools with fresh leadership while ensuring continuity in management experience.
Similarly, Joyce Omondi, the principal at Ahero Girls High School in Nyando, is moving to lead Bishop Okoth Mbaga Girls in Siaya County. Another notable change involves Benter Ayacko from St. Barnabas Girls in Seme, Kisumu County, though details about her new post remain undisclosed.
Changes are also taking effect in schools across Kisii County. Institutions in sub-counties such as Kisii South, Etago, Sameta, and Nyamache—specifically Ekeonga, Nyabite, Ebiosi, and Usena Mission—are undergoing leadership shifts. Additional schools, including Nyisia and Ibeno Secondary Schools in Kisii Central, are slated for adjustments as part of the broader restructuring.
School leadership plays a critical role in ensuring student success. TSC’s decision to rotate principals is more than just a bureaucratic exercise—it’s a targeted strategy to bring seasoned leaders into new environments, fostering innovation and improved outcomes. Fresh leadership often introduces new strategies, aiming to enhance academic performance and better management frameworks for both urban and rural schools.
The overarching aim of these changes is to ensure that all schools benefit from effective leadership focused on supporting both students and teachers in their growth journeys. These shifts highlight TSC’s dedication to fostering excellence and resilience within the education sector.
As the transitions unfold, much will depend on how the new principals adapt to their roles and how the schools perform, both academically and administratively. School stakeholders—including parents, teachers, and students—will undoubtedly monitor these changes with anticipation and expectations.
