Commercial Sex Workers in Mtito Andei, Makueni County are laughing all the way to the bank after Deputy President William Ruto fulfilled his promise to them.
In late October during his political rallies in Makueni, Ruto pledged to give the sex workers a financial boost of Sh1 million.
The sex workers had appealed to the DP for help through the ‘Hustlers Empowerment Fund’ to allow them to pursue legit business ventures.
Ruto then directed them to organize themselves into a Sacco from which they would receive the cash.
On Sunday, December 5, the sex workers finally received the cash donation and praised Ruto.
“We are very happy that the Deputy President has remembered us. It is only Jesus who ever took time and shared with prostitutes,” one of the women said.
She also noted that out of the four presidents who include; Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi , Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, it was only DP Ruto who recognized their work and encouraged them to start better businesses.
So happy were the sex workers that they took a break on Sunday. They also mentioned that they had already agreed on what kind of business they will set up.
“We shall be engaged in table banking business. We shall also buy tents and seats for hire,” one of the women said.
