“Pedestrian fatalities declined in July 2026 as the Authority and Traffic Police intensified enforcement and compliance checks targeting road users who fail to use designated crossing points, including footbridges,” the statement read.
According to the authority’s July 2026 road safety status report, pedestrian deaths dropped to 146 from the 178 recorded during the same month in 2025. This reduction of 32 lives marks a 17.98 percent decline in fatalities among pedestrians.
“According to the July 2026 road safety status report, we lost 146 pedestrians down from 178 fatalities recorded in the same period in 2025, which is a 17.98 per cent reduction,” the statement added.
The agency attributed the positive trend to stepped-up compliance checks encouraging road users to adhere to traffic rules and utilize designated crossing points. To sustain these gains and further protect vulnerable road users, the NTSA urged pedestrians to consistently use footbridges, obey traffic signals, and prioritize their personal safety.
“To further reduce fatalities among vulnerable road users, we urge all pedestrians to always use designated crossing points including footbridges, obey traffic signals, and prioritize their safety on the roads,” the statement concluded.
