Kibera-based singer Steven Otieno alias Stivo Simple Boy has revealed the biggest amount of money he has ever earned since his rise to fame.
Speaking in an interview on Jalango TV Monday, the ‘Mihadarati’ hitmaker said he had landed a number of gigs to perform in the last one year since his songs went mainstream.
Before his big break in the music industry, Stivo said he worked odd jobs as a security guard and construction worker to make ends meet.
“After working in construction that is when God decided to shine his light on me. In 2019 when I went for an interview on the Chipukeezy show, I finally blew up,” he said.
On his biggest paycheck from music, Stivo told Jalang’o that he earned a cool Ksh50,000 from his performance at Kenyatta University on Fresher’s Night.
And Stivo put the money to good use; he sent it to his old folks in the countryside to put up a well, alleviating their water problems.
“My parents live in ushago (countryside) where they have water problems. So I gave them the money for them to drill a borehole. Now they are okay,” said the singer.
Stivo Simple Boy also said his parents were initially opposed to his musical venture but they have since had a change of heart.
“My parents used to complain to me when I tell them that I want to do music and they would tell me that it was witchcraft. These days they are very supportive,” he said.
Stivo, who recently had his braces removed after eight months, mentioned that ladies have been flocking his DMs since. He said he is currently single and content with life at the moment.
