The brother to baby Satrine, Gift Osinya, has been awarded for his bravery. He has won the Jubilee Insurance Samaritan Award (JISA) for his bravery in rescuing his brother from the fateful gun attack on a church in Kilifi.
According to a panel of judges, Gift carried his one year old brother through the terror incident trying to calm him down and rushed him to hospital. They termed the deed by the 13 year old as admirable. The two however lost their mother to a bullet that tore through her and lodged in Satrine’s head which has since been removed in a successful surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The Jubilee Insurance Samaritan Award was launched in 2006 and rewards outstanding and selfless deeds carried out by humble individuals. It aims at encouraging Kenyans to be mindful of the welfare of the less fortunate in the society.
Gift was awarded alongside Mzee Job Tarkwen Kipkech, a Mogotio resident who has been aiding tortoises cross the busy Mogotio highway since 1958.
