The headline-making meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto on Tuesday will change nothing, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has said.
Mr Ngunjiri, who is among the Jubilee MPs opposed to Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions, said the situation will only change if the DP stops his opposition to the war on graft.
According to Ngunjiri, DP Ruto must also genuinely support the handshake between President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“HAS ANYTHING CHANGED AFTER YESTERDAYS ANNEXE MEETING? Friends and ‘non-friends’ are asking me what it means now that Uhuru Kenyatta went to see William Ruto. (I don’t know why I am assumed to know ?). All that I can say is that no matter how many public meetings they have nothing will change between them unless/until (i) Ruto stops his opposition to the fight against corruption, and (ii) Ruto genuinely embraces the ‘handshake’,” Ngunjiri posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
The Nyeri politician further predicted what will happen following Uhuru’s meeting with the DP. He listed three possible outcomes saying only one will happen.
“Before Uhuru went to see Ruto the President’s position was that the fight against corruption will not stop for anyone; & that his handshake with Raila is real & must be respected. Ruto on the other hand held the position that the fight against corruption is political, & that the ‘handshake’ fake.
So one of 3 things will happen now;
1. The Deputy President will change his position to his Boss’s position. (Positive).
2. The President will change his position to his Deputy’s position.
(Negative)
3. None will change their positions so the status quo before the visit will remain.”
