Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has extended his Maendeleo Chap Chap manifesto beyond his county. This after he transformed the lives of Christopher Maina Muchoki and his wife Ann Gathigia from Mathira constituency, Nyeri County.
The Governor had visited the elderly couple in April during a tour of Nyeri County. He was touched by their hardship and despicable housing that he promised to build them a new home.
“Mzee Muchoki lost his eyesight a year ago and they live in a house patched together with pieces of wood and mabati. It was clear that the couple, like many other people in many parts of the country, have been unlucky in life. I have committed to undertake their medical expenses and with Lillian, using our own resources, will build a new house for them,” said Mutua in April.
23 days later, the Governor and his First Lady have fulfilled their promise and put up a decent two-bedroomed that stands out in the sleepy Irui village.
“We have kept the promise and the house is now basically done. It is a two-bedroom house with a living room, kitchen and bathroom/toilet. It is a modern, beautiful house and the type of house you expect to find in the big cities,” said Mutua.
The governor further called on wellwishers to help in furnishing the house with some basic commodities. The plan is to have it furnished by Thursday before presenting it to Mr and Mrs Muchoki on Friday, May 11, 2018, at 10 am.
“Because many of you were also touched by his plight, and would like to help, we wish to include you in this work of God by requesting you to contribute furniture and household goods so that we can hand over a well equipped house to the family,” explained the Governor.
‘We will require sofas, stools, chairs, cabinets, water tank, kitchen utensils, a small gas cooker/stove etc. Whatever is not contributed, Lillian and I will provide.”
